Aquila.Common – User Guide

Overview

Aquila.Common is a .NET MAUI 10 library that provides:

  • Global variables for app-wide access
  • Type-safe dynamic storage for primitives and objects
  • Observable collections for UI binding

It simplifies managing shared state, dynamic data, and reactive UI in MAUI apps.

Benefits

  1. Type-safe Storage – Avoids casting errors with generics.
  2. Thread-safe – Uses ConcurrentDictionary for safe multi-thread access.
  3. Centralized Access – Globals and stores are accessible anywhere.
  4. UI Binding – Observable stores integrate with CollectionView/ListView.
  5. Flexible – Supports strings, integers, floats, decimals, lists, dictionaries, and objects.
  6. Enterprise-ready – Scalable, maintainable, and suitable for large MAUI projects.

How to Use

1. Global Variables

Use UserGlobals, FinanceGlobals, or AppGlobals to store app-wide data:

using Aquila.Common.GlobalVariables;

// Set values
UserGlobals.Username = "Aswin";
FinanceGlobals.Balance = 1500.50m;
AppGlobals.IsDebug = true;

// Read values
Console.WriteLine(UserGlobals.Username);
Console.WriteLine(FinanceGlobals.Balance);
Console.WriteLine(AppGlobals.IsDebug);

2. TypedStore for Primitives

Store primitive types safely:

using Aquila.Common.DynamicStorage;

// Set primitive values
Globals.Strings.Set("Username", "Aswin");
Globals.Integers.Set("Age", 28);
Globals.Decimals.Set("Balance", 1500.50m);
Globals.Floats.Set("PiApprox", 3.1415f);

// Get values
string user = Globals.Strings.Get("Username");
int age = Globals.Integers.Get("Age");
decimal balance = Globals.Decimals.Get("Balance");
float pi = Globals.Floats.Get("PiApprox");

3. ObjectStore for Complex Data

Store dictionaries, lists, and custom objects:

using System.Collections.Generic;
using Aquila.Common.DynamicStorage;

// Set objects
Globals.Objects.Set("Settings", new Dictionary<string,string> { {"Theme","Dark"} });
Globals.Objects.Set("NameList", new List<string> { "Alice", "Bob" });

// Get objects with generic Get<T>()
var settings = Globals.Objects.Get<Dictionary<string,string>>("Settings");
var names = Globals.Objects.Get<List<string>>("NameList");

// Access values
Console.WriteLine(settings["Theme"]); // Dark
Console.WriteLine(string.Join(",", names)); // Alice,Bob

4. ObservableStore for UI Binding

Bind collections to UI elements like CollectionView:

using Aquila.Common.DynamicStorage;

// Create observable store
var obsStore = new ObservableStore<string>();

// Add items
obsStore.Add("Item 1");
obsStore.Add("Item 2");

// Bind to MAUI CollectionView
MyCollectionView.ItemsSource = obsStore.Items;

// Remove or clear items
obsStore.Remove("Item 1");
obsStore.Clear();

  • Use TypedStore<T> for primitives (string, int, float, decimal).
  • Use ObjectStore for complex types (lists, dictionaries, objects).
  • Use ObservableStore<T> for UI-bound collections.
  • Store session-level or app-wide variables in UserGlobals/FinanceGlobals/AppGlobals.
  • Clear or remove unused keys to prevent stale data.
