Running the example project

This repo includes a runnable console example in the Example/ folder that demonstrates extracting images from a real .xlsx file.

Clone and build

git clone https://github.com/USERNAME/CellImageExtractor.git
cd CellImageExtractor
dotnet build

Run

  1. Copy an .xlsx file (one that has "Place in Cell" images) into the Example folder — or use any path on your machine.
  2. Run the example, passing the file path and the sheet name as arguments:
cd Example
dotnet run -- sample.xlsx "Sheet1"

Or from the repo root, specifying which project to run:

dotnet run --project Example -- Example.xlsx "Sheet1"

Note: the -- is required — it separates arguments meant for dotnet run itself from the arguments passed into the app (args[0] = file path, args[1] = sheet name).

Expected output

Found 2 image(s) in sheet 'Sheet1'.
  A1 (row 1, col 1) -> extracted-images\A1.jpeg (1804405 bytes)
  B1 (row 1, col 2) -> extracted-images\B1.jpeg (3674441 bytes.

Extracted images are saved to an extracted-images/ folder inside Example/ (created automatically, relative to the working directory when run via dotnet run).

Debugging in an IDE

Visual Studio: set Example as the Startup Project, then under Project Properties → Debug → Application arguments, enter:

Example.xlsx "Sheet1"

Set a breakpoint and press F5.

VS Code: open the repo folder, install the C# Dev Kit extension, then add args to .vscode/launch.json:

Set a breakpoint and press F5.
