Innovabit.DotNet.Interceptors.RateLimiting.Memory

In-process store for Innovabit.DotNet.Interceptors.RateLimiting.Abstractions, built on .NET's own System.Threading.RateLimiting fixed-window limiter.

Usage

services
    .AddInterceptors()
    .AddInMemoryRateLimiter();

The store is a singleton, because an allowance that reset per request would not limit anything.

What to know

  • The allowance is per process. Behind two instances, [RateLimit(PermitLimit = 100)] really admits two hundred calls. That is fine for protecting one process from its own callers and wrong for a shared quota — use the Redis store when the number has to mean something across instances.
  • No queueing. A call that does not fit is refused, not parked until it does: a waiting request holds a thread and a connection, which is exactly what the limit is there to protect.
  • The policy is fixed when a partition is first seen. The limiter for a partition is created once, so two methods sharing a Name should agree on their PermitLimit and WindowSeconds.
