Microsoft.Visio.Mcp

A local Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that lets AI assistants create, update, read, validate, and export Microsoft Visio diagrams through the Visio Desktop COM Automation API.

Preview and license

This is preview software for evaluation purposes only, not for production environments or critical workloads. Use is governed by the Microsoft Visio MCP Server License Terms in LICENSE.txt, included in the package. Third-party notices remain in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt.

Public releases are manually queued from official/visio with an explicit prerelease version, for example 1.0.0-preview.1. Merge release changes before publishing. The release pipeline rejects stable versions while these preview-only terms apply.

The package is a .NET tool. Launch it directly from NuGet with dnx:

dnx Microsoft.Visio.Mcp --yes

  • .NET 10 SDK for the dnx launcher

The server communicates over stdio. Diagnostic logs are written to STDERR and under %LOCALAPPDATA%\VisioMcpServer\logs.
