Neemle.XSettings

Reflection-free settings loader with optional env/file overrides, trim/AOT friendly. Licensed under MIT.

NuGet packages

  • Neemle.XSettings: runtime settings loader (config file + env overrides).
  • Neemle.XSettings.Generator: source generator that emits reflection-free [EnvSettings] binders.

Reference both in your application project:

<PackageReference Include="Neemle.XSettings" Version="1.0.2" />
<PackageReference Include="Neemle.XSettings.Generator" Version="1.0.2" OutputItemType="Analyzer" ReferenceOutputAssembly="false" />

Loading order

  1. Start with a default config instance you provide.
  2. Load the config file (default config.json, overridable via XSETTINGS_CONFIG_FILE). If missing and createIfNotExists is true, a new file is created from defaults.
  3. If enabled, load an env file (default .env, overridable via XSETTINGS_ENV_FILE); this only populates process environment variables.
  4. If enabled, apply environment variable overrides via the generated [EnvSettings] binders using an injected IEnvironmentProvider.

Runtime switches

  • XSETTINGS_CONFIG_FILE (string, default config.json): config file name/path.
  • XSETTINGS_ENV_FILE (string, default .env): env file name/path.
  • XSETTINGS_READ_ENV_FILE (bool, default true): load the env file before env var overrides.
  • XSETTINGS_READ_ENV (bool, default true): apply environment variable overrides.

Env variable names for overrides follow the assembly-name prefix (or custom prefix when you pass one to EnvSettingsService.FillFromEnvironment). Use SettingsService<T> as ISettingsService<T> for DI-friendly consumption.
