NetLimiter API

The NetLimiter API controls NetLimiter running on a computer, usually the local one. It can create filters and rules (limits, firewall rules, priorities, quotas), monitor network activity, answer firewall requests and change the NetLimiter settings. The NetLimiter client (GUI) is built on this API.

Requirements

  • NetLimiter installed on the computer you connect to. The package version follows the NetLimiter version: use the package version that matches the installed NetLimiter (e.g. package 5.3.28 for NetLimiter 5.3.28).
  • .NET Framework 4.6.2 or later, Windows.
  • Set your project's platform target to x64 or x86 and reference the package with PackageReference. The API contains a native part (NLInterop.dll) that exists only for x86 and x64. AnyCPU projects and projects using packages.config don't get it and fail with FileNotFoundException for NLInterop.
  • Changing NetLimiter settings needs an elevated (Run as administrator) process. To allow non-elevated applications, set RequireElevationLocal to false in the NetLimiter configuration file.

Limit the download speed of an application to 512 KB/s:
