Architecture Decision Records

This directory contains the architectural decision records for this project.

What is an ADR?

An ADR captures a significant decision made during this project's lifetime. Each ADR documents:

  • The context that made the decision necessary
  • The options that were considered
  • The decision that was made and why
  • The implementation plan for agents to follow
  • Verification criteria to confirm correct implementation

Status Values

Status Meaning
proposed Under consideration, not yet approved
accepted Active decision — code should follow this
rejected Considered but not adopted
deprecated No longer applies; see note in the ADR
superseded-by: XXXX Replaced by a newer ADR

Index

# Title Status Date
0001 Adopt architecture decision records accepted 2026-08-16
0002 Add a BRD knowledge domain under a reserved okf/_brd namespace deprecated 2026-08-16
0003 Make a BRD bundle workable with typed registers and derived analysis deprecated 2026-08-17
0004 Move the BRD registry to a top-level brd/ directory deprecated 2026-08-17
0005 Let a repository's knowledge live in a shared hub while its citations stay local deprecated 2026-08-17
0006 Platform views, requirement traceability, and a test-case register deprecated 2026-08-17
0007 One explicit access list per project: what it may see, and what it is the source for deprecated 2026-08-18
0008 Shape the BRD registry like every other component superseded-by: 0009 2026-08-18
0009 One layout everywhere, and sources outside the knowledge root deprecated 2026-08-18
0010 Four-role, file-backed delivery with human-only decisions superseded-by: 0013 2026-08-22
0011 Span-level citations, stale versus unconfirmed, and confirmation superseded-by: 0013 2026-08-22
0012 Implemented behaviour as cited facts superseded-by: 0013 2026-08-24
0013 Role-scoped decisions and one change-status axis accepted 2026-08-26

ADRs 0002–0009 describe the okf/brd experiment that the product-owner decisions of 2026-08-20 removed (docs/end-goal.md, docs/removal-plan.md); the product they are replaced by is PRODUCT.md. ADRs 0010–0012 preserve the next three design generations; ADR 0013 is the current consolidated authority. 0008 keeps its superseded status because 0009 replaced it before both were retired.

Creating a New ADR

Use the adr-skill and its four-phase workflow: copy assets/templates/adr-simple.md or assets/templates/adr-madr.md from the skill, fill every section, then add it to this index.

Conventions

See references/adr-conventions.md in the adr-skill for naming, status, and lifecycle rules.

0.0.18
- Reads a project without re-proving the same file once per citation: a health check over 1,600 facts and 200 records drops from 28 seconds to about one. Batches are proved once per build, citations are read as one set, change lineage is checked against changes already in hand, and file stamps are compared once per build.
- Projections read the collection once instead of listing every record and then reading each again; collection reads parse in parallel and from bytes, with compile-time serializer metadata.
- The portal's read cache no longer stamps `.git` or archived document history.
- A configuration written by 0.0.10 opens again: the retired `trust` block and the earlier lifecycle profile id are read past and rewritten on the next write.

0.0.17
- Adds a delivery order for epics: `knowledge order set <nde_id> --position <n>` puts an epic where the project means it to come, and the board reads in that order. It gates nothing.
- Shows every role what it may do to a need, a requirement, a component, a story and a change, keyed to the same badge the board draws.
- Tags a board row once, beside its title, instead of putting the tag in a different column for every kind and twice on a task.
- Makes the platforms screen read-only; adding or removing a platform stays a coordinator's move with `lifecycle platform add`.
- Explains a refusal properly: every reason is shown, not only the ones naming an observation, and every id in it opens the record it names.
- Reworks the portal's motion, press feedback, reduced-motion/transparency/contrast handling, and the document reading surface; fixes a project menu clipped inside the rail.
