OnwardCare.DataModels

Contains the data models and Entity Framework context for the Onward database.

Prerequisites

You will need the following things properly installed on your computer.

  • .NET Core 7
  • EF Core Tools 
    dotnet tool install --global dotnet-ef

NuGet Account

You will need access to the OnwardCare NuGet account to publish the package. First create an account on the NuGet website, and then contact Onward Engineering to be added as a package owner.

Scaffold Database

  1. Apply migrations and schema changes to your local database using the Onward API.

  2. Change directory to the project:

    cd OnwardCare.DataModels

  3. Build the project:

    dotnet build

  4. Scaffold the database

    Execute the following command to update the model classes and OnwardContext to the latest schema.

    dotnet ef dbcontext scaffold "User ID=onward-api;Password=;Server=127.0.0.1;Port=5432;Database=onward-api_development;Integrated Security=true;Pooling=true;" Npgsql.EntityFrameworkCore.PostgreSQL --output-dir Models --namespace OnwardCare.DataModels --context-namespace OnwardCare.DataModels --context OnwardContext --no-onconfiguring --data-annotations --force

  5. In most cases, you don't need all the models to be up-to-date with the latest schema. Remove unneeded changes and only commit what you need.

Publish to Nuget

  1. Update the package version in OnwardCare.DataModels.csproj > Version

  2. Build the project:

    dotnet build -c Release

  3. Take the Nuget package from /bin/Release folder and submit it to Upload NuGet Package page.

  4. Give NuGet a few minutes to verify the package.
