Hide uncreated variants

NuGet

An Umbraco 17 backoffice extension that hides content tree nodes that have no variant for the currently selected language. Frontend only, with no server code.

Install

dotnet add package Phantasmal.Umbraco.HideUncreatedVariants

Restart the site. The extension is discovered from the package's static web assets. No configuration is required.

Behaviour

When you view the content tree in a given language, nodes with no variant for that language (the dimmed, bracketed items) are removed from the tree. A toggle at the top of the Content section sidebar turns the filter on and off, and the choice is stored in localStorage.

Invariant document types are always shown. Items with no variant data are shown as a safe fallback.

How it works

A backoffice entry point patches window.fetch and removes uncreated items from the document tree and collection responses before they render. The current language comes from UMB_APP_LANGUAGE_CONTEXT. A sidebar app provides the toggle.

Build the frontend

cd src/Phantasmal.Umbraco.HideUncreatedVariants/Client
npm install
npm run build

The output goes to wwwroot/App_Plugins/HideUncreatedVariants/dist. A built copy is committed, so this is only needed when changing the TypeScript.
