Unused media manager

NuGet

An Umbraco 17 Media dashboard that finds media not referenced by any content and removes it in bulk. It ships the dashboard UI and the server API.

Install

dotnet add package Phantasmal.Umbraco.UnusedMediaManager

Restart the site. The UnusedMediaComposer registers the service and controller automatically. No configuration is required. The dashboard appears in the Media section.

Features

Scan the media library for items not referenced by content. Search, sort, page, and view empty folders. Move selected items to the recycle bin (Media access) or empty the recycle bin (admins only). Results are cached for two minutes, and Refresh forces a rescan.

Only references tracked by Umbraco's relation system are detected. Media referenced directly in code or templates can appear as unused, so review before deleting.

How it works

UnusedMediaService lists all media, subtracts anything related through the umbMedia and relatedMedia relation types, and returns a paged, sorted, filtered result cached in IMemoryCache. UnusedMediaController exposes the API under /umbraco/management/api/v1/unused-media. The dashboard is a Lit web component registered for the Media section, written as plain JavaScript with no build step.
