Rune Story CLI

Rune Story CLI compiles declarative .story.yaml files for preview, fullscreen presentation, frame capture, and MP4 export.

Prerequisites

  • Windows x64 or Windows ARM64
  • GitHub Copilot App for Extension-managed installation
  • .NET 10 SDK only for the manual NuGet Tool or a .dll override

Install with the Rune Story extension

Install the source-only rune-story extension from an exact Rune release tag, then invoke its session-level install_story_cli tool. Installation is always an explicit action: opening a Story Canvas never downloads a CLI.

The extension installs the exact CLI version embedded in that extension revision and verifies the immutable GitHub Release plus its asset digests. The managed portable CLI does not require a separate .NET installation.

Manual NuGet fallback

The .NET Tool remains a supported manual and audit path. Pin a published prerelease for reproducibility:

dotnet tool install --global Rune.Story.Cli --version <version> --prerelease

To update a manual installation:

dotnet tool update --global Rune.Story.Cli --version <version> --prerelease

The release's self-contained win-x64 and win-arm64 portable ZIPs are also supported for offline installation and auditing. Verify the archive against SHA256SUMS.txt, extract it, and run story.exe directly.
