Voxta Storage: VoxPak

The storage side of Voxta packages: it lets a resource serve its assets straight out of the .voxpak it was imported from, instead of unpacking tens of gigabytes onto disk first.

Bridges Voxta.Packaging — the container format on its own — to Voxta's asset and resource abstractions.

services.AddPackAwareAssets();

Call it after the file system asset storage is registered: it decorates that registration rather than replacing it. A pack-backed resource still keeps its thumbnails on disk, and anything that was never imported from a package is passed straight through untouched. Needs an IPackageLocator, which lives with the database.

What it brings:

  • VoxPakResourceAssetsManager — the decorator that decides, per resource, whether an asset comes from the file system or from a pack.
  • IPackagesCache — one open reader per pack for the life of the process. Reads are positional, so a single reader serves any number of concurrent asset requests; reopening per request would re-read the index, and the index of a 20GB pack is not free.
  • IVoxPakSecretProvider — how a build says what secret opens the packs it distributes. The default registration is NullVoxPakSecretProvider, which reads plain packs only; register your own ahead of AddPackAwareAssets() and it stands aside.
  • VoxPakTempFileProviderAdapter — points the pack writer's scratch space at Voxta's data folder, which is the volume sized for content, rather than at the OS temp directory.
