adv

adv is the Advantage command-line tool. It is packaged as a .NET global tool with command name adv.

Install or update from the configured NuGet sources:

dotnet tool update -g adv --prerelease

For fast local development, build the CLI project locally. Non-CI builds pack a timestamped local package, install it as the global adv dotnet tool, verify adv internal client-smoke plus adv companion watch --help, and prune stale local feed packages:

dotnet build backend/AdvantageClient.CLI/AdvantageClient.CLI.csproj

Use scripts/fast-install-adv.ps1 only when you also want its Windows-friendly feed setup and cache cleanup wrapper around that same MSBuild install target.

The CLI depends on AdvantageClient, whose package version is tied to the LF-normalized hash of the backend OpenAPI document. CI publishes matching adv and AdvantageClient packages to GitHub Packages after pushes to main.

adv consent create --wait waits through a short rolling-backend handover instead of treating a transient not-found response as immediate expiry. A successful create is durable before the command starts polling. Values passed to --device-id may be exact device IDs, connection IDs, or the aliases ios, watchos, macos, windows, web, desktop, and first; the backend resolves an alias to one canonical connected device before storing and delivering the request.

Logs

Use adv logs recent for bounded troubleshooting windows and adv logs watch for live whole-system status across backend and device logs:

The --source filter accepts exact source labels plus aliases: backend, devices, apple, desktop, mobile, and web. Use comma-separated values to combine aliases. See the logs runbook for alias meanings and API examples:
