A .NET CLI tool that helps you quickly open Visual Studio solution (.sln) by the dotnet.amsterdam community.

Features

• Searches for solution files in the current directory and subdirectories
• Automatically opens the sole solution if only one is found
• Shows a list of solutions for selection when multiple are found
• Attempts to intelligently default to a solution matching the current folder name

Installation

Prerequisites

• .NET SDK 8.0 or higher
• JetBrains Rider installed via the JetBrains Toolbox

Install as a global tool

dotnet tool install --global dotnet-ride

Update to the latest version

dotnet tool update --global dotnet-ride

Uninstall

dotnet tool uninstall --global dotnet-ride

Usage

Simply navigate to your project directory in the terminal and run:

dotnet ride

The tool will:

1. Search for all .sln files in the current directory and its subdirectories
2. If only one solution is found, it will open it automatically
3. If multiple solutions are found, it will display a list and prompt you to select one
4. The tool will try to intelligently select a default option if a solution matches the current folder name

Example

$ dotnet-ride

Searching for solution files in the current directory and subdirectories...

Select a solution to open:

1. C:\Projects\MyProject\src\MyProject.sln (default)
2. C:\Projects\MyProject\tests\MyProject.Tests.sln
0. Open Nothing, exit.

Enter the number of the solution to open (default: 1):

Press Enter to select the default solution, type a number to select a specific solution, or type 0 to exit without opening anything.
