AppBarUtils provides out-of-box application bar behaviors/trigger/action for Windows Phone SDK 7.1, including AppBarItemCommand, AppBarItemTrigger, AppBarPropertyBinder, and NavigateWithQueryStringAction. They work for both application bar button and menu item.
