Audio.TestLogger πΊπ₯
Because staring at a wall of red text in your terminal just isn't quite devastating enough!
This is a cross-platform .NET VSTest Logger that hooks into your test execution pipeline and plays a custom .wav file through your system speakers whenever your test suite has the absolute audacity to fail.
Features
- Equal Opportunity Hater: Works flawlessly with
xUnit,NUnit, andMSTest. It silently judges all of them. - Deep Integration: Hooks directly into
dotnet test, VS Code Test Explorer, and Visual Studio Test Explorer. - Respects Your Time: Emits audio synchronously at the very end of your test run so Test Explorer doesn't freeze (though your typing might).
- Graceful Degradation: Uses native Windows audio (
winmm.dll) for rich.wavplayback. On Linux or macOS, it gracefully drops back to standard console\abells so you still know you messed up.
Installation
Add the package to your test project(s) and embrace the noise:
dotnet add package Audio.TestLogger
Usage
CLI (dotnet test / VS Code)
When you are psychologically prepared, run your tests via CLI and attach the logger:
dotnet test --logger Audio
Visual Studio Test Explorer
Visual Studio requires a .runsettings file to activate custom loggers. Create a file called test.runsettings in your solution folder:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RunSettings>
<RunConfiguration>
<TestAdaptersPaths>C:\path\to\your\TestProject\bin\Debug\net9.0</TestAdaptersPaths>
</RunConfiguration>
<LoggerRunSettings>
<Loggers>
<Logger friendlyName="Audio" enabled="True" />
</Loggers>
</LoggerRunSettings>
</RunSettings>
Then in Visual Studio:
- Go to Test β Configure Run Settings β Select Solution Wide runsettings File
- Browse to and select your
test.runsettingsfile - Run your tests β hear the failure π
Auto-Activate (No --logger flag needed)
Add this to your test project's .csproj so VS Code and CLI runs always use the logger:
<PropertyGroup>
<VSTestLogger>Audio</VSTestLogger>
</PropertyGroup>
Happy Testing! May your CI/CD pipelines be ever green, and your speakers forever silent.
