SimServices.Domains.ProjectManagement

Overview

This library contains objects for the Project Management modeling domain that can be used to interact with the ProModel.ai API. It provides a comprehensive set of classes and components for defining and configuring discrete event simulation models focused on project planning, scheduling, and resource management.

Purpose

The Project Management domain library enables developers to programmatically create, configure, and manage simulation models for project management analysis. It serves as the primary interface for building simulation models that can be executed through the ProModel.ai API, allowing for the modeling of complex projects with tasks, dependencies, resources, costs, revenue, and various project management constraints.

Key Components

Core Model Components

  • Model: The root container that defines baseline constructs and options necessary to model a project management system from which various scenarios can be simulated. It includes configuration for simulation timing, resource allocation modes, cost accrual methods, process modes, and all model components.

  • Project: Defines a hierarchy of tasks representing an endeavor to produce a unique product, service, or result. Projects can be based on templates and contain child tasks with dependencies, schedules, costs, and revenue streams.

  • ProjectTemplate: Defines a template that provides default properties for projects, enabling reuse of common project structures and configurations.

  • Task: Defines individual work items within a project. Tasks can have dependencies, resource requirements, durations, costs, revenue, variability, and various processing modes (plan vs. actual).

  • Resource: Defines model components that tasks can request to perform work. Resources have capacity units, schedules, costs, standard rates, and allocation modes (constrained vs. unconstrained).

  • ResourceRequirement: Defines the resource needs for tasks, including the type of requirement (fixed units vs. fixed work), allocation rules, and priority settings.

Supporting Components

  • Condition: Defines conditions that can affect task execution, including dependencies, predecessor relationships, and various condition effect types.

  • FixedCost: Defines fixed cost categories that can be associated with projects and tasks.

  • Variability: Defines variability settings that can be applied to plan values (duration, work, units) to model uncertainty and risk in project execution.

  • Schedules: Support for daily, weekly, and recurrent schedules that control the availability of resources and define project/task working calendars.

  • ProjectTemplateTaskConditionOverride: Allows overriding condition settings for template-based tasks in specific project instances.

  • Statistics & Output: Comprehensive statistics collection for tasks and resources, with configurable output settings including time series data grouped by reporting intervals.

Target Framework

  • .NET Standard 2.0

Usage

This library is designed to be used as a dependency when building project management simulation models programmatically. Models created using these classes can be serialized and sent to the ProModel.ai API for execution, enabling analysis of project schedules, resource utilization, cost and revenue projections, risk assessment, and what-if scenario planning.

Documentation
