FireForNet.Firebase.Core

Core infrastructure for the FireForNet Firebase Client SDK for .NET.

About FireForNet

FireForNet is a platform-agnostic, .NET-native Firebase Client SDK developed as part of the Circuids ecosystem. It provides a consistent Firebase client development experience across .NET application environments, while allowing platform-specific implementations where Firebase requires them.

FireForNet is organized as an ecosystem of packages rather than a single monolithic package: common developer-facing APIs are separated from platform-specific functionality, with supporting infrastructure for Firebase service integrations, platform integrations, transport, synchronization, packaging, and testing.

About This Package

This package provides the shared foundation used by every FireForNet Firebase service package:

  • Firebase app configuration (FirebaseOptions) and application state (FirebaseApp), registered through AddFirebase(...) with the FirebaseBuilder configuration type.
  • The shared HTTP pipeline: IHttpService, the request interceptor pipeline, and the Firebase authorization interceptor.
  • Scoped JSON serialization through JsonScopeSerializer.
  • Credential token contracts, including App Check and Installations token-source contracts.
  • Common exception primitives shared across the ecosystem.

Installation

dotnet add package FireForNet.Firebase.Core

Targets net10.0.

Usage

builder.Services.AddFirebase(firebase =>
{
    firebase.ApiKey = "your-api-key";
    firebase.ProjectId = "your-project-id";
});

Install this package directly only when building low-level integrations. Firebase service packages such as Auth, Firestore, Storage, Functions, App Check, Installations, Messaging, and Remote Config reference it transitively.

Package Purpose
FireForNet.Firebase.Auth Firebase Authentication
FireForNet.Firebase.Firestore Cloud Firestore
FireForNet.Firebase.Storage Cloud Storage
FireForNet.Firebase.Functions Callable Cloud Functions
FireForNet.Firebase.Messaging Firebase Cloud Messaging
FireForNet.Firebase.RemoteConfig Remote Config
FireForNet.Firebase.AppCheck App Check
FireForNet.Firebase.Installations Firebase Installations

Documentation

Comprehensive FireForNet documentation is being prepared for the Release Candidate stage.

Project Status

FireForNet is currently available as a Preview release and is approaching its Release Candidate milestone. APIs, package structure, and implementation details may continue to evolve before RC and GA.

The RC milestone will be followed by an extensive cross-platform validation and testing phase before the first GA release.

All FireForNet packages are part of a coordinated release train and share the same version number.

Source Availability

FireForNet is currently being developed in a private source repository during the Preview development phase. The source will be made publicly available as the project approaches its open-source phase, with the public repository established from the appropriate release milestone.

Until then, NuGet Preview packages provide the public distribution channel for evaluating and using FireForNet.

v1.0.1-preview.22
- Removed the default scope's JsonStringEnumConverter(JsonNamingPolicy.CamelCase) policy: scopes no longer reshape built-in type shapes. Type-level [JsonConverter] declarations are now honored everywhere; plain enums follow the System.Text.Json default (numeric). See docs: JSON Serialization.
- Introduced IWireString<TSelf> and WireStringJsonConverter<TSelf>: type-owned string wire contracts (the Timestamp pattern generalized).
- Added JsonScopeSerializer.Serialize(Utf8JsonWriter, object?, Type, JsonSerializerOptions) - the runtime-type derivation primitive for residual wire values.
- BREAKING: the default ignore condition is now Never (the plain System.Text.Json default): null values are written. Wire types that require null-omission declare it per property ([JsonIgnore(Condition = WhenWritingNull)]).

v1.0.1-preview.21
- Removed the HttpService SocketsHttpHandler platform check from the browser TFM path in preparation for framework-free platform packages.

v1.0.1-preview.20
- Synchronized package version with the preview.20 release.

v1.0.1-preview.19
- Synchronized package version with the preview.19 release.

v1.0.1-preview.18
- Synchronized package version with the preview.18 release.

v1.0.1-preview.17
- Synchronized package version with the preview.17 release.

v1.0.1-preview.16
- Synchronized package version with the preview.16 release.

v1.0.1-preview.15
- Synchronized package version with the preview.15 release.

v1.0.1-preview.14
- Removed the IInstallationTokenSource contract and its InstallationTokenResult model from Core. Installation identity is now consumed via the Installations package's IFirebaseInstallations directly; InstallationTokenResult is owned by the Installations package.

v1.0.1-preview.13
- Added JsonScopeSerializer buffer-backed overloads: Deserialize<T>(ref Utf8JsonReader, string), Deserialize<T>(ReadOnlySpan<byte>, string), and Serialize<T>(IBufferWriter<byte>, T, string). These enable the Firestore proto-to-JSON bridge to serialize and deserialize without intermediate string allocations.

v1.0.1-preview.12
- Synchronized package version with the preview.12 release.

v1.0.1-preview.11
- Synchronized package version with the preview.11 release.

v1.0.1-preview.10
- Synchronized package version with the preview.10 release.

v1.0.1-preview.9
- Synchronized package version with the preview.9 release.

v1.0.1-preview.8
- Made FirebaseCoreException generic over the error-code type (FirebaseCoreException<TErrorCode>), eliminating MapToCoreCode round-trip mapping and reverse-mapping hazards.
- Deleted CoreErrorCode.LocalCacheFull (Firestore concept that leaked into Core); service-specific codes now live entirely in their owning packages.
- CoreErrorCode returns to being a pure Core/transport vocabulary.

v1.0.1-preview.7
- Synchronized package version with the preview.7 release.

v1.0.1-preview.6
- Synchronized package version with the preview.6 release.

v1.0.0-preview7
- Synchronized package version with the preview7 Firestore local-cache architecture rework release.

v1.0.0-preview6
- Synchronized package version with the preview6 release.

v1.0.0-preview5
- Synchronized package version with the Firestore browser-WASM startup fix.
- Validated the SDK-owned default HTTP transport with browser platform HttpClient on browser and SocketsHttpHandler off-browser.

v1.0.0-preview4
- Improved browser-WASM startup compatibility by isolating default HTTP transport initialization.

v1.0.0-preview3
- Default HTTP transport is now SDK-owned instead of host HttpClientFactory-created.
- Off-browser transport uses a lazy shared HttpClient backed by SocketsHttpHandler with pooled connection lifetime and cookies disabled.
- Fixed browser-WASM startup when DI resolves the default HTTP transport before any Firebase request is sent.

v1.0.0-preview2
- Initial v1.0.0-preview2 package.
