HH.Encryption

AES-256 CBC encryption library for .NET 8 (Windows).
The key is auto-generated, DPAPI-protected, and stored in a .bin file on first use.

Install

dotnet add package HH.Encryption

Usage

using HH.Encryption;

// 1. Point to where you want the key file stored.
// First run creates it; subsequent runs load it.
var encryptor = new AesEncryptor(@"C:\Secure\aeskey.bin");

// 2. Encrypt any string value.
string encrypted = encryptor.Encrypt("Server=myserver;Database=mydb;...");

// 3. Decrypt when needed.
string decrypted = encryptor.Decrypt(encrypted);

The .bin file contains the AES-256 key encrypted with Windows DPAPI (LocalMachine scope), so only the same machine can decrypt it.

Low-level API

If you manage the key yourself (Base64-encoded), use EncryptionHelper directly:

string encrypted = EncryptionHelper.Encrypt(plainText, base64Key);
string decrypted = EncryptionHelper.Decrypt(encrypted, base64Key);

Platform: Windows only (DPAPI requirement for AesEncryptor).
EncryptionHelper is cross-platform.
