Humble Client-Side Admin for Umbraco
A front-end editor toolbar for Umbraco. Signed-in backoffice users get a small pill at the bottom of every page of the public site; everyone else gets nothing — not a hidden element, not a stylesheet, not a byte of JavaScript beyond a 0.8 KB loader.
- Edit this page — deep-link the current page straight into its backoffice workspace, in a new tab or the same tab (per-editor toggle in the Umbraco panel, which also applies to the reveal panels' edit links and the backoffice link).
- Reveal content — list every content item rendered on the page, jump to its editor, or highlight it in place.
- Reveal media — the same for images, with format, file size, and a warning on anything heavy enough to hurt, shown in both grid and list view.
- Umbraco — Umbraco version, environment, server time, and a link into the backoffice.
Why it does not just work after install
The toolbar has to be rendered by your layout, and the items it reveals have to be announced by the markup that renders them. That is two steps you have to take, by design: nothing here injects itself into your HTML.
@* Views/_ViewImports.cshtml *@
@addTagHelper *, Humble.Umbraco.ClientSideAdmin
@* Views/_Layout.cshtml, just before </body> *@
<humble-client-side-admin />
@* Anywhere you render content or media *@
<article humble-cms-content="@article">…</article>
<img humble-cms-media="@image" src="@image.Url()" alt="" />

Pages stay cacheable
Every page renders byte-identically for editors and anonymous visitors alike. The toolbar decides
whether to appear by asking one small no-store endpoint, so output caching and any CDN in front of
the site keep working with nothing to vary on and nothing to strip.
Part of the Humble for Umbraco suite. Supports Umbraco 17 (LTS) and 18.
