Herald.Sinks.InMemory

Retains Herald log events in-memory so tests can assert against what the pipeline produced. Not intended for production — a long-running app using this sink will grow the event list unboundedly unless a capacity is set.

dotnet add package Herald.Sinks.InMemory

The sink auto-registers into LogSinkProviderRegistry.Default via a [ModuleInitializer] on assembly load. No manual RegisterAll(...) or With*SinkProviders() call is required — dotnet add package is the whole workflow.

Sink kind: in_memory (the identifier the Dashboard form and JSON config use to reference this sink).

Capabilities

  • Snapshot read via Events (safe to iterate while logging continues)
  • Clear() for per-test isolation
  • Optional FIFO cap via Capacity constructor argument
  • Thread-safe via internal lock

Limitations

  • Unbounded by default — do not use in production without a cap
  • Snapshot allocates an array on every Events read (test-scale N is fine)
  • No persistence — events disappear when the process exits
