OneCore

OneCore.Net.AVL.MessageBoxes Library

Overview

OneCore.Net.AVL.MessageBoxes provides a ready-to-use, theme-aware MessageBox implementation for Avalonia UI applications.
It mimics the simplicity of WPFs MessageBox API while embracing Avalonias modern styling, templating, and theming system.

Features

  • Drop-in replacement for WPF MessageBox same API, async/await compatible.
  • Light & Dark theme support with automatic resource switching.
  • Customizable ControlTheme for full visual control via axaml.
  • Themed Buttons with hover/pressed states and clean flat design.
  • Keyboard support Enter triggers the default button, Escape triggers cancel.
  • Separation of content and footer for flexible layout and consistent styling.
  • Fully self-contained library no external dependencies beyond Avalonia.
  • Extensible design create custom button sets or override color resources.
  • Cross-platform ready works out of the box on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
  • Built-in localization key support button texts (OK, Yes, No, Cancel) can be overridden by the host app through ResourceDictionary keys.

Getting Started

  1. Installation:

    • Install the OneCore.Net.AVL.MessageBoxes library via NuGet Package Manager:
    dotnet add package OneCore.Net.AVL.MessageBoxes

  2. Namespace Import

    • Add the namespace to your code:
    using OneCore.Net.AVL.MessageBoxes;

  3. Show your first MessageBox

    await MessageBox.Show("Hello from Avalonia!", "Demo");

  4. Use different buttons

    var result = await MessageBox.Show(
        "Do you want to save changes?",
        "Confirm",
        MessageBoxButtons.YesNoCancel
    );

    if (result == MessageBoxResult.Yes)
        SaveChanges();

  5. Apply theme resources

    • Ensure your application merges the Styles.axaml of the library:
    <Application.Styles>
        <StyleInclude Source="avares://OneCore.Net.AVL.MessageBoxes/Themes/Styles.axaml" />
    </Application.Styles>

  6. Customize appearance

    • Override any color key (e.g. MessageBoxFooterBackground, MessageBoxButtonHoverBackground) in your app theme to match your own design.
  7. Localize button text (optional)

    • By default, the library uses English button labels (OK, Cancel, Yes, No).
      To localize them, override these resource keys in your application's resources:
    <Application.Resources>
        <ResourceDictionary>
            <x:String x:Key="MessageBox_OK">OK</x:String>
            <x:String x:Key="MessageBox_Cancel">Abbrechen</x:String>
            <x:String x:Key="MessageBox_Yes">Ja</x:String>
            <x:String x:Key="MessageBox_No">Nein</x:String>
        </ResourceDictionary>
    </Application.Resources>
