ZBRA.MessageTrace.Client.Soap

SOAP (WCF) instrumentation for ZBRA MessageTrace. Install it alongside ZBRA.MessageTrace.Client.AspNetCore when your service makes outbound SOAP calls; services that do not never take the WCF dependency.

services.AddMessageTrace(builder.Configuration.GetSection(MessageTraceOptions.SectionName));

services.AddSingleton(p =>
{
    var client = new DefaultClient(binding, endpoint);
    client.Endpoint.AddMessageTraceBehavior(p);   // <==
    return client;
});

Records host, path, timing, the HTTP status or transport exception, and the SOAP action, from inside WCF's own HttpClient, correlated with the request in scope like any other outbound call. That is the Metadata capture level, the default: no message content is read. An HTTP 200 is not the operation's outcome — a BAPI RETURN error arrives as one.

At Full, the request and reply envelopes are read as well: the operation, SAP RETURN outcomes, fault details, message ids and well-known document numbers, plus whatever an ISoapCallDescriber you register adds. It is opt-in: each envelope is held in memory up to MaxExtractionSize, the extracted values are stored without redaction, and streamed endpoints stay at Metadata (buffered transfer mode is needed):

services.Configure<MessageTraceSoapOptions>(o => o.CaptureLevel = SoapCaptureLevel.Full);

A request sent twice — answering an authentication challenge (with Basic, the first call per channel factory) or following a redirect — is recorded without the request's facts; the reply's are kept.

Do not register your own WCF HttpMessageHandler factory on a traced endpoint: it is then not traced, and a warning is logged. Supported WCF versions: 6.2 (net6), 8.1 (net8), 10.0 (net10).

AddMessageTraceBehavior keeps the ZBRA.MessageTrace.Client.AspNetCore namespace, so installing this package is the only change needed.

Targets net6.0, net8.0 and net10.0.
