Blog Generator

AI-powered SEO comparison blog generation for Umbraco. Create fully structured comparison articles — researched peers, company sections, logos, and preview imagery — and publish them into your existing Block Grid content model.

It adds a Blog Generator section to the backoffice with two dashboards:

  • Generator — enter a topic, company count, optional context, parent page and author, then queue a background job that researches peers, drafts the article, and creates (or creates & publishes) a content page.
  • Settings — configure AI providers, featured company, publish mapping, logo appearance, and optional after-featured CTA blocks.

Features

Generation

  • Builds SEO-focused comparison blog posts from a short topic and optional context.
  • Researches and verifies peer companies, with your featured company placed in the article.
  • Imports company logos into the Media library (direct URLs and homepage discovery).
  • Generates a preview / featured image via OpenAI image models when configured.
  • Runs as a background job with progress polling, cancel, and job history — so long runs do not hit reverse-proxy timeouts.
  • Save as draft or Save & Publish, with parent-page Create / Publish permission checks.

Publish mapping

  • Works across different Umbraco sites via configurable Publish mapping (document type, Block Grid property, parent page, rich-text / preview / breadcrumbs / company element types).
  • Detect mapping from an existing page to propose a draft configuration.
  • Optional after-featured Block Grid content (custom blocks or AI-filled CTA tokens).

AI providers

  • OpenAI and Claude (Anthropic) for article generation.
  • API keys via Settings UI, appsettings, or environment variables (OPENAI_API_KEY, ANTHROPIC_API_KEY).
  • Keys are never returned by the Settings API once stored.

Requirements

  • Umbraco CMS 17.3+
  • .NET 10.0
  • A content model with a Block Grid property (and mapped element types for rich text / company sections)

Installation

Install the package into your Umbraco project:

dotnet add package umBlogGenerator

The package registers itself through an Umbraco composer, runs its database migrations on startup, and adds a Blog Generator section to the backoffice.

⚠️ After installing, grant the section to your user group. Umbraco does not show a newly installed section to anyone — not even administrators — until it is added to a user group's allowed sections. Go to Settings → Users → User groups → your group (e.g. Administrators) → Sections, tick Blog Generator, and Save. Reload the backoffice (Ctrl-F5) and the section will appear. If you don't do this, the section stays hidden and it looks like the package didn't install.

Configuration

Open Blog Generator → Settings and configure at least:

  1. AI provider — OpenAI and/or Claude API key and model(s).
  2. Featured company — name, logo, and optional contact details.
  3. Publish mapping — document type, default parent, Block Grid property, and element types (or use Detect from page).

Optional:

  • Default author user
  • Company logo appearance (background, border, padding)
  • After-featured CTA / custom Block Grid blocks

ℹ️ When you use AI features, prompts and selected site context are sent to the AI provider you configure, and that provider's own API usage charges apply. You are responsible for determining whether that content contains personal data and for obtaining any consents required before processing it.
