NuGet

Nabs.Launchpad.Core.Ai.Tools

Nabs.Launchpad.Core.Ai.Tools provides reusable, agent-friendly tool functions for safe file operations, repository analysis, and centralized cohort execution progress events.

Installation

dotnet add package Nabs.Launchpad.Core.Ai.Tools

The Problem

// 1) File tools are implemented ad-hoc with no consistent safety checks.
var fullPath = Path.Combine(root, userInputPath); // path traversal risk

// 2) Agent execution has no shared progress stream.
// Each workflow logs differently, making CLI and observers inconsistent.

// 3) Repository inventory logic is duplicated in scripts and utilities.
// No standard JSON summary/report contract for automation.

// 4) Tool failures are only visible as exceptions.
// Hard to detect started/completed/failed states in orchestration pipelines.

Features

  • File-system AI tools for read, write, append, and list operations.
  • Path safety enforcement to keep operations inside the configured artefact root.
  • Repository scanning tool with extension grouping, summary metrics, and JSON reports.
  • Centralized cohort progress events via subscribe/publish APIs for workflow instrumentation.
  • Execution context flow using async-local context for artefact-aware tool execution.

Usage

using Microsoft.Extensions.AI;
using Nabs.Launchpad.Core.Ai.Tools;

AIFunction[] tools =
[
	.. FileSystemTools.GetAllTools(),
	.. Nabs.Launchpad.Core.Ai.Tools.GitHub.RepoAnalysisTools.GetAllTools()
];
using Nabs.Launchpad.Core.Ai.Tools;

using var contextScope = CohortExecutionContextAccessor.Push(
	new CohortExecutionContext(ArtefactLocation: @"C:\Dev\MyRepo"));

var writeResult = FileSystemTools.WriteArtefactFile("notes/summary.md", "Initial summary");
var appendResult = FileSystemTools.AppendToArtefactFile("notes/summary.md", "More details");
var listResult = FileSystemTools.ListArtefactFiles("notes", recursive: true, maxResults: 100);
using Nabs.Launchpad.Core.Ai.Tools;

using var subscription = CohortExecutionProgress.Subscribe(evt =>
{
	Console.WriteLine($"[{evt.TimestampUtc:u}] {evt.Kind} {evt.SkillName} {evt.Details}");
});

var result = FileSystemTools.ReadFile(@"C:\Dev\MyRepo", "README.md");

Configuration

  • Use CohortExecutionContextAccessor.Push(...) to set the current artefact root for *ArtefactFile tool methods.
  • Use direct methods (ReadFile, WriteFile, AppendToFile, ListFiles) when you want to provide the artefact location explicitly.
  • ListFiles defaults to maxResults: 500 and clamps to a maximum of 2000.
  • RepoAnalysisTools.ScanFolder(...) writes reports to Scanned<FolderName> under outputBaseDir (defaults to C:\Dev).
  • Optionally pass a blacklistPath in gitignore format for additional scan exclusions.

Project Structure

  • FileSystemTools.cs - AI-callable file read/write/append/list tools with path-boundary enforcement.
  • GitHub/RepoAnalysisTools.cs - folder inventory tool producing summary and grouped JSON reports.
  • CohortExecutionProgress.cs - centralized event stream for workflow and tool progress.
  • CohortExecutionContext*.cs - async-local execution context for artefact-scoped tool behavior.
  • GitHub/Filtering, GitHub/Scanning, GitHub/Reporting, GitHub/Models - scanning pipeline components and report models.
